OUR HISTORY
THE BRAND
The firm of Thomas Gordon & Sons has been associated with Kiltmaking, Tartan and Scottish Highland Dress for over a hundred years. Established in Glasgow in 1908 the business quickly expanded and on the 18th May 1929, Thomas Gordon and James Stewart Gordon became the first directors of the newly formed private limited company.
The firm continued to flourish throughout the 1940's to 1970's and became renowned for the manufacture and supply of quality Highland Dress, Kilts, Feather Bonnets, Pipe Band and Highland Dancers Outfits
During this period Thomas Gordon & Sons supplied to her Majesty's Government and to many other foreign states, overseas regiments and public bodies.
TARTAN DESIGN
In the late 19th century Queen Victoria commissioned Thomas Gordon and Sons to produce the special Johore District Tartan which was said to have been presented to the Sultan of Johore by Queen Victoria during his visit to Balmoral. The company went on to design and supply many other famous tartans including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI tartan).

At the end of the millennium after having been in business for almost a century the directors T S Gordon and D C Gillies took the decision to close the company.
The business was subsequently taken over in 1992 and it is now located in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, in the 'Heart of Scotland' where it continues to supply quality tartans, tweeds and textiles to customers throughout the world.
